More Personalized Scriptures

I made my daughter some personalized scriptures two years ago and decided it was time to make some for my boys. After seeing how hers held up, I decided to make a few changes.

This time I used mod podge to put the paper on the scriptures so that the edges wouldn't come up. I spread mod podge over the entire surface of the scriptures and smoothed the scrapbook paper on top.

I also made sure to make the paper long enough to go all the way around the front cover and inside a little. I noticed on my daughter's set that this is where a lot of wear came from.

Since these were for my boys I didn't embellish them but kept them nice and simple. I really like the way they turned out and my boys just love them. We use them for family scripture time each night and it has made a world of difference having them each have their own set. My 3 year olds love thumbing through them and it gives their hands something to do while we are reading.

Baptism Gift Ideas

Leather Scripture Bag, CTR Bubble Ring, and Princess suckers complete the gift.

Our precious grandchildren are becoming little adults all of a sudden, and we wanted the perfect Baptism gift ideas. I started reading the little blue Book of Mormons and highlighting my favorite parts, especially about the Savior. Then when I was finished, I wrote my testimony in the front cover each time I completed one. Then a fun trip to "Deseret Book", helped me find the latest gifts to add for my grand daughter, who recently was baptized. There were so many fun choices, but knowing her personality made it easy to choose. When they grow older we hope they truly realize how special they are to us and how much we enjoy their company.

Personalized Scripture Covers

When I came across this idea on Brown Paper Packages I knew I had to make some for Cailyn.  She just got baptized last weekend and I wanted to get her own set of scriptures but wasn't ready to spend a lot on them just yet.  So I figured if I got the cheap ones and cutsied them up it would be perfect!  There is a great tutorial HERE if you are doing the Book of Mormon.  But since the Triple Combo & Bible are thicker, one piece of scrapbook paper wouldn't work so I had to modify it.

Supplies:
  • Triple Combination & Holy Bible
  • patterned paper
  • cardstock
  • ribbon & embellishments for the front
  • ribbon for a "bookmark"
  • tape/glue

You'll need to cut the patterned paper into (4) 5x7 pieces and the cardstock into (1) 5x7 piece and (1) 4x7 piece.

Glue or tape the back of the patterned paper and place it onto the front and back of the book.

There will be a little of the book showing on the left but it's okay cuz it'll be covered by the cardstock.  :)

Next, take the cardstock and place about 1 1/2 inches on the front and crease it a little where the binding is.

Then take it off and give it a really good crease on the table.  Put it back on the binding and crease the other side.

If you want a bookmark in the book, glue a piece of ribbon onto the binding before gluing it onto the book.  (Cut the ribbon longer than you think you'll need.  I cut mine too short and had to rip off the binding!)

Glue the binding on.

Add some decorative ribbon and other embellishments to the front.

I just printed up the titles on my computer in brown ink to match.  (Just for reference the size was 24pt)

I matted the titles in the same brown cardstock as the binding and glued them on.

And there you have it.  A cute little set of personalized scriptures!  You can do these in any color or style and can make them girly, boyish, or neutral.  I think I may have to make one for my 4 year old boy.  :)

We Believe Board

I've wanted to do something like this in our home for a while now -- a place to display some of the scripture stories we've been learning about as a family.  So I found a scrap piece of wood in the garage that was the size I was looking for.  I spray painted it black and then used sandpaper to rough up the edges a little.

I found these jumbo clips at Walmart and thought they were perfect.  I tried gluing them on with a hot glue gun but for some reason they didn't hold.  So I used Gorilla glue instead and that worked perfectly.

I hung up the board and used my Cricut to cut the words "We Believe" in black vinyl and applied it to the wall.  Then I printed up some scripture stories and Articles of Faith cards from Simply Fresh Designs (which are sadly not available any more!).  Now each morning after we read our scriptures the story goes on the clip to help us remember.  And whenever we read a story from The Friend magazine we put that up there as well.  I'm hoping that as we see this every day it will remind us of our faith and our desire to learn more about our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
