Guest Bedroom Makeover

Remember when I posted about the curtains my mom made for my guest room?  I kept meaning to post pics of the whole room but kinda got sidetracked.  So finally, here is our guest room makeover.

Here's what the room looked like before.  When we moved in there were stripes painted on the wall that I just hated.  Yeah, they had to go!

We painted the room in Valspar Stormy Weather and accented the room with gray and yellow.

I still need to do something over the bed but haven't decided what just yet.

We found some pillow shams on clearance at Target and a small pillow at Bed Bath & Beyond.

Spray painted beans and a print on an Ikea floating shelf.

This metal nightstand was silver but it blended in too much so I gave it a coat of black spray paint.  The lamp shade was an off-white color so I gave it a coat of yellow spray paint.  I swear spray paint will fix just about anything! :)

The bathroom:

I found a picture of yellow flowers online and printed and framed it.   I used some small size mason jars and filled them with cotton balls and q-tips.

I'm so happy with how this room came out.  I absolutely LOVE the gray and yellow and kinda wish I had done it for my room where I would see it all the time.  Instead I'll just have to make sure we have lots of guests that can enjoy it.  :)

Frugal Friday- Homemade Hash Browns

At our house, we love to eat breakfast for dinner! Who doesn't? A lot of times we make our own hash browns and it ends up being a lot cheaper than buying them from the frozen section at the store.

What you will need:

- about 4 raw potatoes
- chopped up onions (as much or as little as you would like)
- 2 eggs (to hold the ingredients together)

Mix it all together in a bowl, and then spoon into the pan to cook. You could also do this on a griddle.
This is a fast and easy way to make your own hash browns at home. Hope your family enjoys this as much as ours does!

Things We Love Thursday- Astringent

As I have talked about in a previous post, I have really picky skin. This is my favorite astringent to use. My favorite thing about it is that there isn't alcohol in it so, it doesn't sting or feel like it is drying your skin out.

What do you use?

Table Re-do

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Ok, my sister in law bought this table a few years ago off of ksl and wanted to re-do it. Her house that they are in now is really dark, so she wanted to lighten the table to brighten up the space. She asked me to help her and it ended up being quite the process. I have redone furniture before, but this table gave us some trouble. There were so many layers of lacquer that the previous owner had put on there that the table was always sticky.

So, our first step was to strip the table down. We used lacquer thinner and we thought this should have been easy, but there were seriously like 30 layers of lacquer on the table. We had to pull out metal spatulas and scrape the layers off instead of just being able to wipe them off. What a pain, but we got it done!

We rolled the table out to the 2nd garage and sanded it down. This got the remainder of lacquer off and made it smooth and ready for priming.

Once we got a couple of coats of primer on and dried, it was time for the fun part....painting! Like I said earlier we did this process in her second garage and we did this back in January, so it was cold. The good thing about that is that the cold made the paint crack on its own which was great since we planned to rough up the edges anyways.

We were very happy with the way that it turned out! The lacquer gave us some trouble, but in the end it was worth seeing the finished table!

I would love to know of the projects you are working on or have just finished up!

Hunger Games Shirts

Ok, I know that the movie has been out for a week now, but I waited til Marie came out for a visit before seeing the movie so that we could see it together! My friend, Natalie Schwartz, on facebook made these cute shirts...(she posted them on facebook but not onto her blog)

I haven't had a chance to make one for myself yet, but I plan to soon!
