Easy Homemade Doughnuts

My kids LOVE these!  They love making them AND eating them.  They are so quick and easy, too.

Easy Doughnuts
refrigerated biscuits
oil
toppings

Heat 1 inch oil in a skillet. Separate biscuits and flatten a little with your hand. Using a small round cookie cutter, cut a hole in each biscuit. (I didn't have any small circles so we used hearts instead! You could also use the cap of a water bottle.) Fry the biscuits and the holes in the oil until brown on each side. Top them with whatever you want. We dipped some in regular sugar, some in a cinnamon/sugar mix, and some in a frosting made of powdered sugar & milk. They all tasted great!

Frugal Friday- Restaurant Pasta at Home

I LOVE pasta! I was in the mood for a good pasta the other night and went on a search to find a good one I could make at home. I found this one from Chaos in the Kitchen on Pinterest and gave it a try.

I made a few changes to the recipe. I didn't have any shrimp on hand so I substituted chicken. I also did not have fresh parsley, basil, or garlic cloves. So, i used parsley and basil seasoning that I had in my spice rack. For the garlic, I had a thing of minced garlic in my fridge and used that.

This was a fast recipe to make and it was a HUGE success! Everybody loved it! Next time I definitely want to try it with shrimp.

This was a great restaurant style pasta that I could make at home with pretty much the things I already had on hand. This is a great way to go to save money instead of going out for a good pasta! This pasta cost me under $5 to make!

Things We Love Thursdays: Pillsbury Cookie Dough

"I believe in big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face."
-Shawn Spencer, Psych

Okay, I could probably write a whole post of reasons why I love Psych - the above quote only one of MANY - but this post is about cookies.  Big, warm cookies.  I LOVE chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven, dipped in a mug of cold milk.  But I don't like to make my own.  When I get a hankering for them, I want them NOW. And I don't want dozens that will sit around the house tempting me to eat more --  just a few will suffice.  Which is why one of my favorite things is this giant tub of Pillsbury Cookie Dough from Sam's Club.  I've tried several brands, but this is by far my favorite.  I get soft, fluffy cookies -- not flat or crispy or greasy ones like some other brands I've tried.  When I'm in a mood for cookies, I scoop out a few spoonfuls onto a pan (and yes, usually a spoonful into my mouth!), bake 'em, and I am one happy girl.  :)

Do you have any food indulgences?

10 Minute meal for under $10

I love fast and easy meals! I always have these ingredients on hand so when I dont have time I can just throw this meal together really quick. It doesn't hurt that you can feed your family for less than $10. Many stores always have pasta or rice on sale for 10/$10, so you can get them cheap. The sausage usually costs around $3-$4. Then you can pair it with a veggie or some fruit. This meal is pretty healthy and low in calorie as well, so I love that.

I follow the instructions for the pasta or rice, then I chop up the sausage and put it  in a pot of water to simmer, while the pasta cooks. The meat is already cooked so, basically it is just warming it up. I then drain the water from the sausage and add the sausage to the pasta. Then it is ready to eat!

Product Review- Cupcake Soaps

The kids recently got a ton of crafts that were put together in a basket for an auction. My sister in law gave us one of the baskets that she won. Cupcake soaps was one of the items in there. Sydney of course was really excited to bust it out and try it, so we did.

They had a blast choosing colors of soap to mold and deciding what kinds of designs that they would come up with.

Ok, the only color that stuck together and was easy to mold as the instructions said was the white. All the other colors just crumbled and were really hard to get to stick together. They felt really dry and adding a touch of water did not help at all. So, that meant that I basically had to do all the shaping for them. It was really frustrating, however the kids had a blast making these.

Here are the creations they came up with:

The kids had fun and it was fun to spend some time with the kids. I am just really glad that I did not buy this or I would have been mad, but it was free and again the kids had fun anyways. Maybe we just got a bad one, if it had not been a dry batch I would totally recommend it for one of those rainy day activities to do with the kids. It is a cute and fun concept and may be worth a try for a better batch than we got. You can get them here.

Has anyone else tried these?
