Halloween Subway Art

Last year I shared with you some Fall Subway Art I made.  I decided to utilize the back of that one and turn it into some Halloween Subway Art.  Two for the price of one. :)

I used my Cricut to cut out a bunch of Halloween related words onto cardstock.  After painting the board black I used Mod Podge to adhere the words on.  I added another coat of Glossy Mod Podge over the entire board to seal it all in.

I also wanted to show you these platters.  I picked them up at a thrift store for maybe a dollar each.  I love that they are a nice, solid metal (not like the flimsy dollar store ones) and they already came tarnished and vintage-looking.  Add a dollar store crow and some spider webs and they are the perfect Halloween decoration!

Frugal Friday: Halloween Frames

This is a super easy and really cheap project (my favorite kind!).

I started out with some ready-to-finish wood frames from Michael's which are only $1.  I spray painted them black, roughed up the edges a bit with sandpaper and then added some embellishments.  That's it!

It's a cute addition to my Halloween decor and it's so fun to display my kids' costumes from the previous year.

Halloween Decorations- Part 2

My favorite Halloween Decorations are the white picture frames! I made these a few years ago with Cassidy. We went to our D.I. and picked up some cheap picture frames. We painted them and then roughed them up a little. Cassidy cut out some fun Halloween images on her cricuit and then we applied them to the glass. In order to keep the glass in the frame without the back on the frames we had to hot glue gun the glass to the frames! These turned out so cute and I am happy with the way they look!

What is your favorite Halloween decoration?

Halloween Decorations- Part 1 Entry Way Mirror

We moved back to Utah last October and are renting a cute little cabin where we live, so ignore the cabin walls and decor. This mirror is in our front entry way and is part of the house but it does make a cute display  place for some of our Halloween decorations! One of my favorite pieces are the little white and black pumpkins with sayings on them. These were a dollar store find a few years back while we were in California visiting Colby and Marie!

As I have mentioned in previous posts, Halloween is my favorite holiday and I have accumulated several decorations for Halloween. Keep an eye out for posts to come of more of my decorations! I have too many pictures to put in one post!

These are just a few that I like to watch. I think I could go on and on, but I will stop with these! What are your favorite Halloween movies?

Quick & Easy Cards with David Tutera's Card System

I love making and sending homemade cards to my friends and family.  We live in an age where most sentiments -- birthdays, anniversaries, etc -- are sent via Facebook or text.  But there is something special about receiving a physical card in the mail from someone.

I absolutely LOVE this new line by David Tutera.  You can make personal homemade cards in just 3 easy steps. You pick a base, add some layers, and finish with embellishments.

Here are the supplies I used for my Thank You card.  I love that everything is already cut to the perfect size.

I started with a white base and added a turquoise embossed layer.  For this layer I used a sanding tool on the embossing to add a contrasting color.  This is one of my favorite techniques to use!

Then I added the embellishments and a sentiment and I was done.  Seriously, so easy but still very personal and unique.

I even let my 8 year old daughter try it out.  She made this adorable birthday card for her aunt all on her own.  She was so proud.  :)

Here are a couple more cards I created.  I love that I can whip up a bunch at once and have them ready for when I need to send out a card.  And if I have to make one last minute?  No problem cuz it only takes about 10 minutes to make one.  :)

David Tuera's Celebrate Card System is available at Jo-Anns Crafts.  For more information, you can follow the David Tutera Paper Crafts line on Facebook,Twitter and YouTube.

Would you like to win some of these goodies? Three lucky winners will receive a $250 grand prize pack of supplies from David Tutera’s Celebrate cardmaking line AND a personally signed book from David. Twenty additional winners will receive a $50 Celebrate prize pack!

Things We Love- Revised Astringent

Ok, awhile back I did a post about Biore astringent and I have used it for years. About a month ago I ran out and when I went to the store to get more they were out. I had a mental freak out cuz I have very sensitive and oily skin, so it is very hard for me to find products that dont irritate or cause break outs. I began searching for a temporary fill in astringent until Biore was back in stock. I had used some Neutrogena products in the past and they were fine so, I chose this one cause it had many of the same ingredients as my trusted Biore one. When I first tried it, it stung a little  and I was not sure that I liked it. As time went on and my store still had not gotten the Biore back in, I began to notice something good! When I would have a pimple show up, this astringent would help it go away a lot faster then when I didn't use it. Instead of having a pimple for like a week they were gone in 2-3 days! I am a new fan of this astringent and will not be going back to Biore! I still recommend Biore but I found that Neutrogena Rapid Clear has worked a little better for me! I love it when a good accident happens!

Halloween Books

One of my kids favorite traditions is to read a Halloween book every day in the month of October.  We have a few books we've bought over the past couple years and the rest we got from the library this weekend.  We have a basket full of them and the kids take turns picking one out every night.  This year I also bought Roald Dahl's The Witches (for only $1 though a school book order!) and plan to read a chapter every night with the big kids. It will be my first (gasp!) Roald Dahl book.  I've heard only good things about his books so I'm as excited as the kids. :)

Here are some of our favorite Halloween Books:
  • Clifford's First Halloween, by Norman Birdwell
  • Clifford's Halloween, by Norman Birdwell
  • Spookley the Square Pumpkin, by Joe Troiano
  • Sixteen Runaway Pumpkins, by Dianne Ochiltree
  • The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything, by Linda Williams
  • Where's My Mummy? by Carolyn Crimi
  • Come With Me on Halloween, by Linda Hoffman Kimball
  • The Halloween Queen, by Joan Holub
Do you have a favorite Halloween Book?  I'd love to get some more good ones for our home library. :)
